Arkansas Blood Institute Opens Hot Springs Donor Center

January 18, 2017 ─ Arkansas Blood Institute is committed to saving the lives of Arkansans.  Now, Arkansas Blood Institute is offering an additional, convenient and comfortable option for selfless donors to give blood in Hot Springs.

Arkansas Blood Institute’s brand new, state-of-the-art donor center is now open.  A grand opening ceremony was held on Wednesday, January 18, at the Hot Springs Donor Center, located at the new Keystone Crossing Plaza, 149 Section Line Road.

Arkansas Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin spoke at the event, later posting photos to social media.

“The new Arkansas Blood Institute donor center in Hot Springs means more life-saving blood donations for Arkansans,” Lt. Gov. Griffin posted on Facebook. “Glad to be part of the grand opening!”

The Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce joined Hot Springs Mayor Ruth Carney, other dignitaries and community leaders as well Arkansas Blood Institute President and CEO John Armitage and Arkansas Blood Institute Executive Director Paulette Nieuwenhof for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.  Hot Springs blood recipient Erin Green shared her inspiring story, followed by a complimentary lunch and a tour of the donor center, which includes cutting edge technology and private screening rooms.

Green suffered a life-threatening complication while giving birth to her daughter, Georgia.  She needed blood, platelets and plasma from a total of 21 different donors to survive.  She now wants her friends and neighbors to understand the importance of blood donations.

“I’m so thankful that people are willing to spend an hour of their day donating blood,” said Green.  “Had the hospital not had that inventory, our story would have turned out very differently.”

“The new Hot Springs facility furthers Arkansas Blood Institute’s mission of reliably providing local hospitals with the blood patients need at the right time,” said Terry Ridenour, Vice President of Center Operations- Eastern Division at Arkansas Blood Institute.  “Our new donor center gives local residents a convenient choice to give life-saving blood closer to home.”

Arkansas Blood Institute, a non-profit blood center, relies solely on volunteer blood donors to provide every drop of blood needed by patients in 33 Arkansas hospitals, including CHI St. Vincent, National Park Medical Center and all area Baptist Health Medical Centers.

Arkansas Blood Institute’s Hot Springs location will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Appointments to donate are not required but can be made by calling 877.340.8777 or clicking here.

WINTER ALERT: Weather Impacts Blood Supply, Donors Urged to Give

January 6, 2017 – As winter weather moves across the state, delays and cancellations are negatively impacting Arkansas Blood Institute’s supply of life-saving blood.

Arkansas Blood Institute urges healthy adults who get out as roads are cleared to give blood and platelets.  Platelets are especially needed since they only have a five-day shelf life. They are used for cancer patients and others suffering from life-threatening blood disorders.  Arkansas Blood Institute strongly urges donors to give platelets to help replenish the supply for local hospitals.

Donors can find a center or mobile drive in their area by clicking here, or make an appointment immediately by calling 1-877-340-8777.

Arkansas Blood Institute provides every drop of blood needed for patients in 32 hospitals statewide.
