In late 2020, Susan Knight was paralyzed from the waist down after a back surgery that went wrong. While in the hospital, she used two units of blood from two separate donors. Since then, she has regained the use of her legs through physical therapy.

Susan wished to thank the blood donors who helped save her life. While one of them wanted to remain anonymous, Lisa Goddard agreed to meet her. Knowing nothing about each other or even each other’s names, they finally met during a Wilburton High School assembly, where Lisa Goddard taught for many years up until 2023. She was even the teacher who coordinated the school blood drives, making this an impactful story to her students who she had been recruiting to be blood donors.
